Imagine Breathe Achieve yoga and mindfulness lessons for Key Stage One are adapted slightly in terms of delivery from the Early Years Foundation Stage Scheme. The stories and themes are the same, however the activities, discussion and delivery are better suited to slightly older children.
The learning experiences in my lessons are well aligned to many aspects of the Key Stage One National Curriculum, outlined in the drop-boxes below. Children in my classes will have opportunities to develop aspects of their academic learning across many subject areas. As with EYFS, my lessons are designed to enhance the overall well-being of children aged 5-7, with a particular focus on social and emotional development.
The yoga is non-competitive, which allows for individual expression and promotes confidence and independence. By bringing positive energy and encouraging imagination, I foster lovely relationships with the children as they engage in something different and fun during their usual school day. In Key Stage One, the practise of mindfulness and mediation can be discussed and explored in slightly more depth.
Creative activities, with something to take home, will remind the children of the story and their learning. This also encourages the childrensโ grown-ups to ask about what they have done at school, prompting the children to recall and describe what they have done. Because my lessons are multi-sensory, interactive learning experiences, they are accessible and inclusive for children who learn in very different ways. They can also be adapted for any children with additional needs. Through the promotion of mental and physical well-being, my lessons help to build strong self-esteem and resilience, which should also have a positive impact on the childrensโ academic achievement.
Learning themes are strong throughout each lesson and a package can include up to 12 relevant themes / lesson plans. These include:
- Being unique
- Being brave
- Kindness and generosity
- Worries and asking for help
- Co-operation and teamwork
