Early Years Foundation Stage

A picture of children playing

Imagine Breathe Achieve yoga and mindfulness lessons are designed for children in Early Years provision, to enhance their overall well-being in a unique way that clearly aligns with the Statutory Framework. I invite each child to become involved in a comfortable, non-competitive way, which embraces their individuality. I aim to provide an experience that meets each child wherever they are in their development, allowing them to build confidence and independence. By bringing positive energy, encouraging imagination and self expression, I foster lovely relationships with the children as they engage in something different and fun during their usual school day.

The take-home activity reminds the children of the story of their learning. This also encourages the childrens’ grown-ups to ask about what they have done at school, encouraging the children to recall and describe their lesson. Because my lessons are multi-sensory, interactive learning experiences, they are accessible and inclusive for children who learn in very different ways. They can also be adapted for any children with additional needs. Through the promotion of mental and physical well-being, my lessons help to build strong self-esteem and resilience, which should also have a positive impact on the childrens’ academic achievement.

Learning themes are strong throughout each lesson and a package can include up to 12 relevant themes / lesson plans. These include:

  • Being unique
  • Being brave
  • Kindness and generosity
  • Worries and asking for help
  • Co-operation and teamwork

The Statutory Framework says...

Communication and language 👂🙋

Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Physical 💪

Physical development involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food.

Personal, social and emotional 🙂👍

Personal, social and emotional development involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.

Literacy 📚✍️

Literacy development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Mathematics 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣

Mathematics involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measure.

Understanding the world 🌍

Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.

Expressive arts and design 🖌️🎨

Expressive arts and design involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology
